Question How to change a rear door power lock actuator?

My right rear door lock actuator needs to be replaced. Taking the door trim panel off is easy and getting the lock assembly loose is easy. But under the door trim panel is a thick black plastic panel that helps support a lot of the window mechanisms. It has a port where I can remove the cover and get my hand in there to grab the lock assembly. I even managed to unhook the actuator rods but I couln't figure out how to get the parts back out of the port in the black plastic panel. Once my hand is in there I can't really get much light in to see what I'm doing. It kind of looked like it needs some sort of a rotational move to get it apart. I couldn't find any illustrations. Anyone out there done this before?

You have to remove the carrier plate (the big plastic panel)

The same actuator busted on my truck. Luckily still under warranty. Cost me a Hundred bucks on the deductible though. It was back when my valve stems were cracked and they installed the wrong TPS modules. Had to go back twice to get that fixed, but they did fix the actuator at the same time so I didn't have to pay a second deductible. I wonder why the actuators fail so easily on the right rear. I have heard a few people mention it.

Arvada,

I now have the same issue in my 2010 1500, except mine is the left door. I, like you, got all the way down to the plastic panel that holds all the guts. I tried to take that entire panel with the window out as I couldn't get the lock mechanism unhooked through the side or that portal that you mentioned. However I had difficulty getting it out with the window and abandoned the effort for now because I was afraid I was going to damage the window.

Did you ever get the actuator switched out yourself?

I never tried again. It's been working kind of intermittent. I do have an extended warranty so I will probably use that and pay the $100 deductible. I was thinking of selling the truck and was hoping to not use my extended warranty and get half the money back but oh well. Without some reference I was worried I would damage the glass or have trouble with adjustments, etc. I did notice my backup camera flickered a little the other day so maybe I can get that looked at too under the warranty program.
