Default Borla Exhaust Compatibility

I have a 2010 Ram 1500 4.7L and was looking into a Borla exhaust kit (item #140308). However, I realized that the site says it fits 2009-2013 Ram 1500 5.7L. So I called Borla and all they guy would only say is that it was designed and dyno'ed for the Hemi, and that they could not say whether it would fit or work as designed on my truck.

Does anyone know/have experience with this kit on the 4.7L? The only other kit that comes close to the Borla sound one I heard made by Mopar, but I did not find the item number for that kit. I really didn;t like the Flowmaster or Magnaflow sounds nearly as much as the Borla.

Any suggestions would be helpful! I have installed the K&N air filter and am using the Superchips Vivid tuner--fantastic results!!

well i believe no matter the engine size the pipes are a 3" inlet and a 2.5" outlet so as long as the 3" matches it should fit right up

I'm sure you are correct regarding 3-in, 2.5-out. However, could it be a routing issue where something may not fit around something else correctly? That's the big concern. The Borla guy recommended just using a Borla muffler, but I see there isn't one listed for my truck either, just like the kit!

Jsp697,

Can you PM me your VIN#? I'd like to look into this further for you to review the Mopar part# you are looking for.

Another update: Called back to Borla (I think I got the same guy--Steve?). Anyway, that was another complete waste of time! In the previous call he had mentioned just purchasing the muffler for my truck as it would produce the same sound. So I looked for the muffler to fit my truck and hit the same issue again--no reference for my engine size. So I inquired that perhaps the 4.7L engine was just left off the "This item fits" references. He said that they don't have any product for my truck as it was not a highly produced truck and they simply did not have the demand for it. On top of that, I mentioned that the pipe sizes were the same and if it were a routing issue. He said he couldn't answer that definitively but I was more than welcome to the schematics to fit onto the truck schematics to see for myself.

Again, total waste of my time and absolutely no help. I like the Borla product, but the customer service was of no help! So, I will be looking at Mopar and Flowmaster!!

You're wasting your time trying to find a specific muffler for your truck. Focus on universal borla muffler, inlet size which typically is 3", decide whether you want single or dual outlet and diameter size. For instance. A borla pro xs part #40349, 3"in/dual 2.5"out, 24" length. $179.95 @summitracing.com Order it. Take it to a muffler shop, pick out your tip(s) pay the man and drive home happy. Prolly $200 in parts and labor totaling under $400 instead of a bolt on kit that costs around $1,000 you still have to install! I did it with a magnaflow muffler on my big horn. 1year warranty remove & replaced muffler. Walked out after 45 minutes and only $140 total cost(parts&labor) I already had factory dual tailpipes. Tips were in great shape. Why would I pay $800+ for basically the same thing? So I can spend a few hours wrenching. No thanks. Smarter not harder. My suggestion is to pick a borla muffler, order it, find a muffler shop who is reputable. You'll save $ and get the sound your after.

I went with a magnaflow xl muffler part# 13278. Was only $66.47 @ summitracing.com
3"in/dual2.25"out stainless muffler
14"case, 20"overall
Sounds good, barks loud on start up, interior resonance is low, deep low rumble that's quiet until you GET ON IT!
If I could so it over again, borla all the way.

Mufflex has direct bolt on mufflers if that is what you are looking for. They are a Magnaflow muffler with the needed pipes that take up the exact space of the original muffler so you can do the install in your driveway.

The stock exhaust is 409 stainless, a lot of the aftermarket 304. In a salty enviroment like a lot of us have in the northeast, 304 is the only way to go.
