To each his own but to me, I think just the opposite. We're getting smarter about how these vehicles work. Guys are tuning their trucks with computers and they know what to do to increase power or increase mileage instead. Who ever worried about the back-spacing on wheels years ago? The available technology is so far beyond anything we had 30yrs ago.
Honestly, if the design engineers decided it does not need to be regularly checked why bother with a stick? When was the last time you changed your fuel filter? That used to be done every 30k along with the air-filter. Times, they are a changing, and for the better as far as I am concerned. Hell, if I want to wrench on something, I'll pull my old CJ out of the garage and go at it. There is always something on that I can adjust, tweak or fix on that. I bought my truck because of all the convenience features: PS, PB, PW, auto-climate, etc. Hell, I can even check the air in my tires without leaving the cab. Can't beat that with a...(wait for it)....stick! lol

And when your old CJ breaks down along the highway, you`ll likely be able to KNOW whats wrong, AND fix it and get to your destination...
your new high tech vehicles... you`ll be able to use your high tech cell phone to call a tow truck and have your destination to where you wanted to go, ended.

Agreed, manual transmissions usually dont have dip sticks either. If it isnt leaking fluids, dip sticks really do nothing. Its not like an engine where its burning/using oil and the levels change often, so the levels are usually going to stay put in an automatic transmission. Personally, i like having a dip stick just because i`m a wrench head, i like checking things on my vehicles. But as an end result, i guess it really dosent bother me much not having it. At first, it bugged me, but there are much worse things around that bug me more...lol.
