Default When to change shocks?

I realize this is a rather open ended question, but just wondering when people are finding it time to change shocks out.
I have read the threads about what name brand and all but I was curious as to whether there was an average mileage setpoint that shocks go away. 60,000, 70,000, 80,000 miles? It is just because my truck is not riding as nicely anymore. ore bouncy, rougher ride than it used to have. Then again I live on some pretty bad rural roads. Lots of frost heaves, pot holes, twisty turny, hilly roads.

Changed mine on an 2002 quad at a little over 100,000. They did,nt seem that bad. Upper control arms and lower ball joints needed replacement ,so i put new shocks on at the time.Don

I would say that 70-100k is the lifespan of shocks.

I got about 50K on mine before they were all but useless. Mind you the truck is not babied at all and since it was about 7 years old, I can't complain too much.
