2013 Uconnect problems - Voice dialing
I'm not sure if this is the voice recognition or just problems getting my address book, but trying to call people with Uconnect is really frustrating.
Usually it's pointless to even bother until the truck has been on for a few minutes, since it seems to wipe the address book every time it's shut off and won't have anyone in memory at first.
Even after that though it frequently won't "understand" me. I'll say "call whoever" and get "There is no last number on record", "Dialing your last incoming call", "Would you like to call towing", or something. Or, it'll just default to the first person in the list and try to call my friend Aaron regardless of what I say.
Is there any way to improve this? Maybe some update if I go into the dealer that'll make it keep numbers in memory when the truck is shut off or something?

I've given up on trying it with my 2010. Almost totally incorrect recognition.
The odd thing is that I had Uconnect back in a 2005 Grand Cherokee and it actually worked very well. Voice recognition was good (not perfect, but worked mostly) and the sound quality the person on the other end heard was good. When I do make a call with my RAM people ask me why it sounds like I'm talking from the bottom of a barrel.
Sometimes technology goes backwards...

I don't have your system but just a little note:
Uconnect doesn't wipe the phonebook from memory with each key cycle. What happens is that each time the key is turned on, Uconnect will download the PB, it will compare the new DL with what is currently in memory to see if you have added or deleted any contacts while you were away from the vehicle. This could take a couple minutes depending on how many contacts and numbers for each contact that you have. Uconnect will support up to 1,000 with up to 4 numbers for each contact. If you try calling a person before the PB has downloaded, then you will get odd results.

If my phonebook hasn't changed in the meantime, shouldn't trying to call someone who was already in it work fine?
I just wish it wouldn't dial the first name in the book every time it's unsure. I ended up jumping the gun a bit and changing my fiancee's last name to mine. Hers is a bit awkward to spell and I guess it can't figure out what I'm saying, and it would ALWAYS call Aaron every time. I wonder how many Aarons have friends with Uconnect misdialing them constantly..
BigBlue, the audio quality in mine is pretty good, no one's ever complained. They used to complain so much when I would try to use speakerphone in my old truck though. I'd usually give up and drive down the road with my phone on my chest hoping a cop didn't see me.. so it's a step up

I can only say what I've found in my system. The PB is basically NA during the DL - comparison process.
It took me a bit to be able to call my wife also, her name is Kala where the "K" is pronounced as a hard "K" (like Kay), so I would say "call Kala". Uconnect would say something completely different. Now I have also found this to be true on other vehicle brands. I decided to see how Uconnect pronounced it, I did this by pressing and releasing the Uconnect button and saying "phonebook, list names". I was asked for a name to start from, I choose a name that was a couple above her name. When Uconnect said her name, it was pronounced "Calla". After a little reading I found that computers pronounce things differently than humans do. There is a spec they use but I haven't found it yet.
Out of curiosity, I went into my contacts and edited my wife's name to 'Kayla", Uconnect now pronounced it the way I do. I just had to explain to my wife that I could call her "Calla" or just rename her in my PB.
Now another thing that can be done is:
On my system (should be available on yours also) there is a local PB in Uconnects memory that will support up to 32 contact with up to 4 numbers for each contact. On names that are just difficult for Uconnect to say the way you would and you can't pronounce it the way that Uconnect does, I would just add those to the local PB. This is done by (on my system, may be different on yours) Pressing and releasing the Uconnect button and saying "phonebook, add name". I'll be asked for the name. Now this name will be added to Uconnects memory and in your voice. So now when you call this person, the name will be verified in your voice. These names are also available faster than the contacts in the DL'd PB.
I hope that this can also help you.
