Default Ticking coming from engine with or without MDS while driving

Hey Guys,

I am in need of some help ASAP as I am possibly driving my new but used truck with possibility of Lifter issues.

I couldn't here the noise to start with as they had me keep my windows closed do to tinting them. 2 days after I bought it I opened the windows to discover the ticking to be very loud including driving down residential street with lots of houses. You can hear the ticking echoing on the houses.

My dilemma is I need to get this fixed yet the dealership says there is nothing wrong and can't hear the noise. I am trying very hard to get them to get this fixed but they don't care to even help.

Does it sound loud only when cold or also after the engine warms up to operating temp? If only cold, it likely is a broken exhaust manifold bolt.

It's all the time. When I go up hills it's freakin loud with the MDS off. I don't get how a dealership says it's ok when this thing is freaking ticking a lot.

im kinda having the same problem but the ticking isnt super loud and you cant hear when im moving, just when im stopped. upon further research, i came across some a site that said something about cold starting and oil. apparently hemis are known for this 'tick'

they also said to use better, synthetic oil. will this fix your problem? i have no idea, but im gonna give it a try and see what happens

Mine had two broken exhaust studs, so it ticked all the time, and yes under load it is considerably louder and echos off everything. One of the bolts broke off inside the head, so had to be drilled out.

Hey Guys,

So here is some good news. The dealership was looking for other reasons like exhaust to fix the problem. But after they started to replace it with the muffler the noises and problems where still there. So the service manager has now decided to put ears on the underside of the truck from back to front to see where the problem is. Well where they put the ears the first time they couldn't hear the noise cause they where focusing on the wrong area which should have been the engine compartment. So they kept my truck over last night cause they told me they don't know where it was coming from but they were looking into it further before they closed yesterday and going to be all day today. So we will see what the outcome is. I am very excited that I found a dealership that is willing to go the extra mile to help a customer fix there vehicle then to turn a customer back and say it's normal. When I have 2 out of 3 dealership saying it's not normal lol.... It makes me wonder the quality in which dealerships are providing there customers.

Hey Guys,

I have yet another update. The dealership I was talking about in the last post about them putting ears on it. So they put ears on it and you can hear the ticking very loud in it and the chattering when driving when you put a little gas down.

So long story short I have yet pulled the truck back from that dealership cause even with the ears the mechanic is saying he can't hear the noise yet it is very pronounced in the headphones when driving it. How I know that I used my spare key for the truck and took it for a drive with the service managers permission and I was able to hear it in the headphones really clear.

So I took the truck back that day. And I have now made a couple phone calls to a couple of Dealerships that deal with tons of trucks. So I drove the truck to a dealership an hour and 10 minutes away from my house one way. It wasn't even a couple hours after I took the mechanic for a drive and showed him every noise. My truck started to squeal the other day as well and told them about that. So here is the good news. They have identified a couple noises and are going to fix that and move forward to fixing the rest. The squeal is the water pump which they ordered. They are also replacing the torque converter. And they are replacing some sort of shielding under my truck. Will keep you guys posted on the next stuff after they replace those things.

Hey Guys,

Well here is another update of the ticking and other issues. They have the parts in for torque converter and shielding under the truck. But the water pump is now in a very long wait. My truck is still parked at the dealership. Still driving a loaner truck.
