Default Question for Late Model Hemi Owners

What is the oil consumption on your vehicles? General Motors' stated oil consumption standard for its "variable" eight cylinder engines is one qt. per every 2,000 miles. That seems excessive to me. I am considering replacing my 2005 Dakota with a Ram, but not if it burns 1 qt. of oil in 2,000 miles. Thanks.

I change oil every 5000 miles or so and it doesn't seem to burn anything.

I go usually about 8K between oil changes using Mobil1 synthetic and a quality filter. I don't have to add oil. I think if they have such a 'standard' it is to avoid doing engine repairs on any engines that may happen to burn some oil.

GM should change that to 1 quart ever 2k if lucky.

My neighbor had an '07 Suburban with the 5.3 Flexfuel that burned a larger quantity then one quart every 2k. After many complaints with GM, he purchased a new vehicle. A gentlemen I work with had the same nightmare with his '08 5.3 Avalanche Flexfuel. He bought it used with 20k miles cheap...

Now he knows why.
