Code P3401 Info Needed
Fellas,
I recently purchased a used 2010 Ram 1500 sport crew cab with only 36,000 miles. I'm loving the truck so far with no notable malfunction, but it has the engine light on and i went to the local auto zone where they scanned it and it showed code P3401 Cylinder 1 Deactivation/Intake Valve Ctrl Circ/Open as active.
I have searched online but found little info on what can be wrong. It seems to be part of the MDS but not sure. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Fault code P3401 is a MDS solenoid # XXXXX circuit fault code and will set if the PCM sees a problem with the circuit. Usually this is caused by the solenoid itself, but you will need to test the circuit to find out. Could be a short, something in the circuit or the solenoid itself. The intake manifold covers the solenoids, so you would have to remove the intake to gain access to them.

Thks for the reply. I don't have access to a garage now until probably next month to remove the intake and checkout the solenoid. How urgent is this? is it something i can sit on or should i fix this sooner rather than later?
Are you checking the circuit for just continuity or something more specific? Also, does anyone have any pictures or diagram for the solenoid and/or its circuit. Sorry for all the beginner questions.

Quick question, is there a connector that is not under the intake manifold for the solenoid, that i should check 1st?
The reason I ask is because I'm wondering if the previous owner could have unplugged something to prevent the MDS from kicking in, i.e. he wanted 8 cylinders working all the time.
Thks. No access to the garage until probably next month for the intake take down.

If there was a connector disconnected elsewhere, I would expect codes for the other 3 MDS solenoids faults
