Haha, at least 3 times today. Going from reverse to drive when pulling out of a parking spot is the worst since you're fighting muscle memory. I know a guy who tried "turning down the fan" on his Ram with the ****... Shifted into park going 75. I guess it just made some noise. I assume there would be some safety switch built in as it is electronic.

Some day, after you've owned the Ram with the eight speed for a while, you'll get in to some other car or truck and reach for a **** on the dash that isn't there.

Hope you enjoy yopu're new Ram.

Haha, yeah I get into our '12 Ram now and find myself shifting into 4x4 by reaching for the **** instead of the column lever. Have had the '14 for about a month and 8,400 miles... Brakes still act off and the dealer has no solution. But I'm adapting.

I had a similar issue and I had the dealer check it out. they updated the computer and it got much better. I also found that at times it would stall if I came to a short stop. Haven't had an issue since they updated the PCM.

Never, yet. I've only had mine about a month, but the location has been easy to get used to.

The problem I've had is that the rotation direction must be counter-intuitive for me. Maybe because I'm Left Handed? I HAVE several times put it into Park rather than Drive after Reversing...

FWIW, I sold my 2014 GMC with 4k miles because I HATED how the tranny worked* and got the RAM. So far I love, love, LOVE it.

*it's like there's a little gremlin in there who's job is to get every last inch out of every drop of gas. A truck should not be upshifting to maintain 1200 RPM IMO, and to top it off - resisting downshifting until you put your foot halfway to the floor which usually causes it to drop 2-3 gears.

Although you're the first I've heard say they traded one in because of it, the lack of transmission response seems to be a common complaint.

Of course there's no little man in there, but GM has intentionally programed the 1500 computer to keep the transmission in a gear that's closest to the engines minimum RPM for maintaining forward motion. This is done primarily to use as little fuel as possible, as you're probably aware, and is optimum for passing the EPA fuel consumption tests.

The problem is that for more aggressive driving, or when needing a higher engine demand (hills, towing), the engine will more likely use more fuel due to increased throttle demands. Consequently, unless you drive like an old person having a cardiac arrest, there is a general unhappiness with both performance and fuel consumption. Most of the Chevy/GMC 1500 owners I've talked to complain about around town performance and poor gas mileage.

Next year the new Ford/GM co-designed 10-speed transmission should alleviate both problems.

But then, will they complain about 'busy shifting' like they do about Ram's 8-speed?

Dusty
