Default First major repair

Had the truck in for an oil change this morning and they mentioned that my drivers unit bearing was really bad. I had thought that it was just the brakes and had planned a rotor pad replacement for tomorrow. That thing was really sloppy, funny I never felt it on the road. Lots of sledge hammering to get the rotor busted loose and the unit bearing loose. 102K on the rotors and unit bearing and about 60 on the pads

Parts show up tomorrow.

Did the bearing start to separate from the race?

For 60k on the pads, the outer pad looks pretty good still, what brand pads are you running in that photo?

I haven't taken a close look at the bearing, but there is a lot of play in and out with it.

The pads would be Wagner Thermo Quiet - only thing I have used on trucks for many years. Part of the reason they last so long for me is that most of my miles are highway, so I'm not exactly burning up brakes.

For replacement parts, the rotors are Raybestos Pro-grade, pads are ThermoQuiet and the unit bearing is an SKF

Stuff all showed up with the fedex guy today. Everything seems good again. Need to do the rear rotors and pads eventually but they looked good enough for now. Ready for vacation and 5 hours of towing each way

Good to hear. We use probably a dozen different SKF angled roller bearings with our hydraulic pumps spindles. What would be the odds we carry the same exact dimensions with one of them...

Not very good, lol!

Thanks for the information. I just got back from my vacation in Northern Wisconsin yesterday. Now back to work

My drivers side went at around 70,000. Lots of play. Pass side still good. Weird that one would wear out like that and not the other. But I bought the pass side anyway and have it waiting. I used the NAPA Adaptive one pads all around and love them. Quiet and stop great with Discmotive drilled and slotted rotors, which have not warped yet like the Dodge ones at less than 30,000 miles. Make sure to be prepared with the rear brakes. when I tried to pull my rear rotors off I had a few issues and two of the pads had come off the emergency brake shoes. $100.00 for those E-brakes. Yikes.
