tow rating for 2009 trx4
If it were a 2010 with that config (4x4, 5.7L, crew, 3.92) it would have a rating of 9,950#. But they changed the rating standards between 2009 and 2010. The vehicles were physically the same but the 2009s were rated quite a bit lower than the 2010s. For practicality I'd go with the 2010 rating, but I have no idea if there are legal ramifications to that if you have problems (insurance, DOT).
That said, any time you're towing near the max capacity of your vehicle you're pushing things. In great conditions (flat, dry roads, no wind) it would fine to tow that much occasionally. But if you have a trailer pushing 10K that you need to tow often or in aggravating conditions like hills, wind, icy roads, etc. you'd be better off considering a 2500.

I tow a 9000 lb airstream, but it is an easy tow; and i use a Hensley arrow hitch; that makes it a lot easier. I have done a few mods for this task, ie heavier rear springs and a second trans cooler and a deeper pan,mag-hytec covers for the diff. It does my task without any drama. In hindsight , if I would have known in 2009 that I was gonna retire early and do the RV thing , I would have went 2500 and cummins, so I could have gone with a bigger rv and for the mpgs....but my 09 is paid for , and has lifetime max care, so this baby is with me until they bury me in it.
I'm not worried with my current trailer. Its only 4500lbs.... my sissy 4.7L 2wd with the 3.55 pulls it.... with struggle. Its just getting old and a 4x4 would be nice were I live. Any trailer I've looked at to upgrade to hasn't exceeded 6500lbs.
