Rear Shocks
Hello. I'm curious as to what type of wrench is required to hold the nut on the upper shock bolt? Because of the position of it on the frame, a socket wrench will not fit. Neither will a box wrench, unless I unbolt the bed. I know that its a 13/16. Only thing I can think of is one of those curved box wrenches. I used to feel I was pretty competent working on my vehicles...until this one came along.
Thanks!

I tried that, but there wasn't enough clearance to get it on, as the floor of the bed is very close to the top of the shock. I actually cut down an old 13/16 box wrench to about 5 1/2 inches long. I'm going to give that a shot.
Thanks!

The cut down wrench worked! Since it is in such a tight spot, even a stubby wrench would not fit. So anyone looking to do this job in the future, I would recommend sacrificing a 13/16 in order to get it done.
That's the only thing that would work for me. I had a 13/16 box/open wrench and cut the box end down so that there was about 2" left on the shaft. Even at that it was a pain to hold it on the nut. Whoever designed that upper mount at Ram shot be shot!

Agreed! I would imaging that the dealer has a "special tool" of some sort. After a few hours and head scratching, modifying the wrench was the only option. Even though I hate destroying tools like that.
