Quick Lifetime Warranty Question
You are aware that these engines (unless you swapped the cam and/or are using certain engine tunes) are optimized for and call for 89 Octane and running anything higher will do absolutely nothing right?. Higher Octane fuel does not offer more power or MPG's nor does it burn cleaner or increase engine life. You are literally throwing money away.
No reason to debate. But if you felt any difference it was either because you got a bad load of lower octane previously or it was psychological. Simply and irrefutable science proves that it does nothing on an engine that does not require it.
As for how clean it is?, under federal law ALL grades of gas must have detergents added. Premium fuels often have more added (not always), but you can buy the additives (Techron as an example) as well and use them on occasion and still save a lot of money. And you mention a higher octane rating as though it somehow makes a fuel better. If you understand what octane ratings are you would realize the octane rating is not a measure of quality. It's a measure of a fuels resistance to premature detonation. The higher the compression ration in the engine, the more important that number is. But the stock Dodge Hemi is engineered to run perfectly on 89 octane. Anything more is throwing money away.
As for what is $2-$3 when filling up a 32 gallon tank? With premium fuel typically .10c more per gallon then mid grade, you are talking on average a difference of $3.20 per tankful. That doesn't sound like a lot. But if you fill up once a week that's over $166 a year. So over two tanks of fuel wasted. You could also add Techron every 3,000 miles and still have enough money left for another tank of fuel.
Reliability and fuel economy are two of the biggest selling points for trucks. If Dodge thought running premium would help either one they would require it or at a minimum recommend it. Instead they allow 87 and recommend 89. That should tell you something.
Ok, so maybe it's an extra $100 per year or $150, depending how much you drive. What if the only difference it makes it psychological? How much is peace of mind worth? It's not like it's hurting anything.
I hope you keep a can in the back for when you don't time it to the foot and run out before you get to the gas station...

It's no different than those that run CAI. they are convinced that there engines some how are better than stock , putting something that the engine can't use to be any better is a complete waste of money , but some people will convince themselves that what they are doing is good for whatever reason they are doing it.
