Default 2015 Ram 1500 Passenger-side mirror has too much magnification

I have a 2015 Ram 1500 Big Horn with the "Power Black Trailer Tow Mirrors w/Manual Fold Away" and the passenger-side mirror seems to have way way way too much magnification for my linking. My 2003 standard mirror was fine, but this mirror just doesn't work for me... I find that I'm always using the small wide-angle mirror on the edge, rather than the large mirror, because I can't see enough out of it. I honestly don't understand how this mirror could be useful for anyone? Am I the only one that has this problem? I'm thinking about swapping the mirrors out for the standard ones (from the sticker, looks like my truck would have come with heated and auto-dimming mirrors w/o the "Trailer Tow Mirror and Brake Control Group" package), but I think it's gonna cost a fortune to swap them out...

Sounds like you have it adjusted wrong. The mirror is designed to work in both the flipped up and down positions. The fisheye mirror should be the one showing you the side of your truck/blindspot and the big portion should be showing you the next lane over. It is counter intuitive when the mirrors are in the down position. Best towing mirrors I have ever had.

@oldjeep I've tried adjusting it lots of time - I'm open to the possibility that I just haven't found the right place to point it, but...

I'm not sure what you mean by flipped up and flipped down positions? The large mirror is closer to the truck body, and the fisheye is on the edge furthest away from the truck. Does the mirror assembly rotate 90deg? I tried rotating it, but it didn't seem to move, and I didn't want to break it.

On my old truck, looking at the big mirror (it only had a big mirror) I was able to see the lines on the street (for backing in to a spot, for example) and I could also see the lane next to me, going back as far as I could see, when on a flat street. The current big mirror is so magnified that when it's pointed at the lane next to me (so I can see traffic behind me in the next lane over) I can't see the lane lines at all, when backing in to a parking spot.

Yes, the entire mirror rotates 90 degrees away from the truck if you have the towing mirrors. Can't say that I've ever tried to look at parking lot lines with the mirrors, so I've got no idea on that one.

I'll try what oldjeep said.

Passenger mirrors are NOT magnified. A driver side mirror is planer (flat) because it is close to the driver's eye. The passenger mirror is convex because if it were planer, the field of view would be about 1/5 that of driver side as it's about 4x farther from you. To achieve the same field of view with a planer mirror, it would have to be 4x the size of the driver mirror. By using a convex it allows you to have a similar view with the same size mirror. The trade off is the image is compressed, thus making objects appear to be farther away than they actually are.

There is an ANSI code that covers in minimum and maximum angles the convex can be. My '14 2500 mirrors are fine as have been the tow mirrors on both '15s I've driven. Only thing I can say is play around with the angle or re place it with aftermarket. I can't recall anyone else who reported the problem but as a rule former Ford owners hate Ram mirrors.

Ford hasn't had a diesel engine worth a flip since '03 but their tow mirrors have always been great!!!

@oldjeep - You are correct! I took another look at my mirrors, and they do rotate 90deg like yours! I guess the springs inside are just tight, since they are new! (feel a little silly I didn't know about that) I still haven't found a way to adjust them to my linking when they are tucked down, but tomorrow I'm gonna flip them up and see if I can adjust them more to my liking.

@HammerZ71 I'm not saying that they are magnified greater than 1:1, just that the level of magnification is too great for me - I would like the passenger mirror to give a wider angle of view than it does... more like the standard mirror that was on my 2003 RAM 1500. I have put about 5k miles on my new truck, and haven't found a position that I like yet... if spinning them up doesn't help, I may have to start looking at aftermarket, or non-towing options.

Thanks for the feedback guys - much appreciated!
