Default 2012 Navigation dimmer issue

Has anyone had an issue with the navigation screen dimmer failing to dim at night or brighten up during the day? In the menu options, it allows me to set it to just day or night modes, but I have it in auto, so it is supposed to adjust automatically. Now that it is just out of warranty, the dealer only wants me to pay them to diagnose it, before they will tell me if its covered under the extended warranty, if its the radio, if its the programming to the radio, or if it is the light sensor. the headlights turn on and off when its light out or dark out, so the sensor does not appear to be the issue. Granted, if the issue is covered under the extended warranty, the diagnostic will be just about the same as the deductible, but why pay that and then find out its something that is not covered. This is the same dealership that insists that on my diesel the power steering pump has nothing to do with my brakes, when that little compression clamp came off the hose that holds it to the cooling radiator...yes I lost my power steering, but I also lost braking. They don't seem to know the product they work with.

DevilDog68ms, I wasn’t able to locate a TSB related to your screen dimmer concerns. Do you know which extended warranty you have?

Thank you, Emily – Social Care Specialist

Have you tried moving the interior light dimmer switch to a different position? That fixed mine.

Default Dashlight dimmer

Try adjusting you're dash lights to a lower setting. If it's adjusted to the brightest setting your stereo will not dim no matter what.

Think they are referring to the Nav turning dark for night and lit for daytime. I would tend to think it is the sensor in the center of the dash by the windshield.

I have navigation in my truck. If the dash light dimmer is turned all the way up the navigation/stereo screen will not dim when the headlights come on.

I will give that a try this evening when its dark out again. Didn't think that has ever been changed, but will advise if this corrects the issue.
