Default 2015 5.7 Hemi, Low Water temp? Gauge reads low?

This is my first winter with this truck. Trying to see if this is common to all 2015 Ram Hemi's. At 30 outside, the heater air output is just warm.

After 15 min of run time, I used a handheld temp probe on the side of the block at the flange connecting the top radiator hose and the highest temp I read was 165 at 30 outside. Got the same thing using a Laser temp probe.

If this truck has a 203 degree thermostat, I would have expected to read something maybe 25-30 degrees higher than 165.

My temp gauge consistently reads at 3/8 of the scale or a fair amount below 1/2. Curious if other owners normally read temp at half scale, or down where mine is.

What does the EVIC say? The oil and water temps should be pretty close to each other. I would not trust the temp probes on the side of the block, who knows what you are looking at there.

It indicates 195-200 water temp idling at 30 outside, and that is all you could ask for!

I'll wait for the coming cold weather and see if I get warm or hot, heater output.

you may be having a different issue regarding the heater. If the coolant is 200 degrees, you should get hot air from the vents.

Ok, so what are the possibilities?

Only one possibility... take it to a dealership.

My 2010 5.7 will burn me out of the cab. It is real cold here where I am and within 15 min the truck is blowing hot hot air, out of whichever outlets I choose.

Which model Ram do you have (1500, 2500, 2500)? I can check to see if there are any TSBs related to heat performance.

Either way, I would absolutely recommend having a dealership diagnose your vehicle since you should still be under warranty.

Mine is a 2015 1500 5.7 Hemi

I went to the dealer last week, and before entering the vehicle or looking at the gauge, the mechanic told me there was nothing wrong with it. So not all dealer techs are geniuses. On the other hand I am sure many are good!

I checked for any TSBs that could potentially be related to what you're experiencing, but there don't appear to be any heat-related ones for the 2015 1500.

Are there any other dealerships nearby you could take your vehicle to for another look, or possibly another tech or service advisor at your first dealership who can sit in the vehicle with you so you can demonstrate your concerns?

If you decide to bring your vehicle back to the dealership to have them look at this and would like assistance scheduling an appointment, feel free to reach out to me!

After the Dodge tech initially told me the heater was fine, they did say that the computer software was slightly out of date and that there was an update covering the heater operation.

They did the update but I don't see any difference. Could there be something in the software updates?
