Code P3401 comes on intermittently
I just purchased a 2009 dodge ram laramie with 5.7 hemi and 112,xxx miles. I was skeptical with how many miles but it passed my hour long inspection and test drive. I drove it around pretty hard and my second day of ownership the check engine light came on. The computer is spitting out code P3401. I brought it to the dodge dealership and the tech didn't do much investigation but narrowed it down to a bad MDS solenoid. The weird thing is it only comes on maybe 2 out of every 4 times that I drive it. It causes my MDS not to come on so it kills my mpg.
I already called the dealership and told them. They said bring it back and well fix it. Although, Im hesitant as it is a used car dealership with a trailer office. Not sure if I trust them digging around in the engine, not to mention the drive is an hour away from me.
Anyone have any insight if this can be an easier fix than replacing a solenoid?

Water can get in under the intake and puddle around the MDS solenoids. It's a MESS when it happens. Pedro is right. That's typically what we do at the dealer if the circuits check out. A used car lot?...who knows.
