Default Key FOB Stuck

If your key FOB ever gets stuck in the ignition, first make sure the vehicle is in PARK and that the steering wheel is not in a bind. Next make sure that the key FOB is turned fully to the "off" position (counter-clockwise).

If it still won't come out, PULL - PULL HARD - it will come out. (Pull on the physical key FOB itself, do not pull against a ring of keys attached to the back of the FOB)

Optionally use a #2 flat blade screwdriver to pry between the front edge of the ignition switch and the top (or bottom) edge of the key FOB.

I've heard of a low or dead vehicle battery causing this.

There are two small plastic detents that hold the key FOB in place, located approx. 1/4 inch from the outer edge of the ignition switch. A good solid (strong) tug is usually enough to get them to let go.

If it continues to happen to you, see your dealer and be sure to have your checkbook or credit card ready. They'll likely want to replace the ignition switch module, which is expensive. (Several hundred bucks, typically)

If this happens to you, be aware that you can have the parts counter order a complete remote start kit for you. The kit comes with 2 new key FOBs , a new ignition switch module, the antenna unit and a new hood latch, some ty-wraps and wiring harness all for less $$ than the ignition switch (or key fob by itself.) The new key FOBs can also be programmed to match your existing ones. (they typically charge $50 for programming addt'l key fobs).

My truck was recently repaired. I had a no start situation shortly afterwards where the fob was stuck in the dash. Turns out the body shop never retightened the positive terminal. Once retightened, the fob came right out.
