Default Brake Controler

I have a 2012 - 1500 big horn edition and am looking at getting the integrated brake controller and installing myself. I was told by a local dodge dealer that once installed that the on-board computer has to be programmed to recognize it.

Is this true or are they trying to scam more money?

Computer has to be flashed to recognize it.
