Default 3rd Gen owner Looking To Upgrade

Currently have an '03 1500 QC, with the 5.7.

Starting to think about a newer 2500 with a 5.7.

Anything important to look out for aside from normal Dodge stuff?

My old one, rolling on 35's gets around 10-11mpg around town and about 8 towing a #7000 travel trailer. Are the 4th gen any better, or am I destined to keep the gas companies rolling in $$? The current truck will tow it OK, but I never re-geared for the 35's, and can tell it isn't super happy doing it.

I also like the sounds of the Heavy Duty model, but would sacrifice a little towing capacity in favor of not having a harsh ride the 90% of the time the truck isn't loaded or towing. My trailer isn't really heavy for a 2500, plus it has an equalizer hitch, so tongue weight isn't an issue..

Any ideas or advice is appreciated in advance!!

Go for a 1500 with the 5.7, 8-speed and 3.92. That would be 2013 or newer. The eight speed is great for towing and the gen 4 hemi has more power than the gen 3. If you must run 35s you will need a lift or leveling kit for them to fit.

MPGs not towing with the 35s will be a few MPG better but towing will be about the same.

2500 is a good choice, but why not go with the 6.4 Hemi? If you want the 5.7 I would highly recomend sticking with the 1500.
