Default rear diff noise - 2012 1500 crewcab

so i've developed a bit of a whine that I'm 99% sure is coming from the rear diff. had it opened up and inspected and found no wear or metal, drained the oil and refilled with new synthetic. And the whine is still there. So I'm reading up on the situation and come across the N08 recall which sounds exactly like my problem. Call up FCA and get told that it doesn't apply to my truck.

How common is this problem? What did I do to cause it if its not a recall issue? From what I'm reading about other's recall fiascos I'm looking at a lot of expensive trouble. Anybody have any advice as to what I should do next?

does the noise change under hard accelleration or decel? any change in turns?

bearings tend to growl, crown and pinion gears tend to wine.

It's a constant whine that's tied to the speed of the vehicle. Turning does not affect it.
