I have a 2017 Ram 1500 with an Extang tri-fold cover that is currently closed and the tailgate is stuck because the latch will not release. Any ideas on how to get either one open?

 

I'm not sure where you're located to know if this is likely or not, but is it possible the latch is frozen and if you were to park in a heated garage or similar it would thaw and open? If it cannot be due to being frozen, can you tell if the Unlock feature is attempting to unlock the tailgate? I'm not familiar with your 2017 to know if it's different from my 2014, but have you checked the owner's manual to see if there is maybe a Valet mode that is selected which might prevent the Unlock from unlocking the tailgate?

Oh yeah, have you tried cycling the key lock a few times on the tailgate release handle? Does the lock switch feel like it's moving anything "behind the scenes?"
