Default Factory alarm system issues

I have a 2011 Dodge Ram Laramie I bought about 6 months ago with the factory alarm that's activating randomly, however, it seems to be mainly going off in the middle of the night.

I saw that there was a computer flash for 2011's having the same issue so I went to the dealership this afternoon to have them look and see if my computer required any system flashes. They typed in the last 8 of my VIN and said that there's no recalls and that it doesn't show that it needs an update.

My first question is, can they simply type in the last 8 of my VIN number and tell if the computer is up to date (software flashes etc) without plugging it in to a machine? They told me that if I wanted to have it looked at, it would cost me $170 just to look at it then the cost of repairs.

Second question is, I haven't seen many threads about this same issue on the net and am wondering if y'all have any ideas where to start on it. I was thinking of pulling all the door accordions loose and see if any of the wiring is frayed (which I did see is a common issue) but I'm not having any problems with my speakers/mirrors/door chime/power windows. My thought is that if the door sensor wire is frayed, it could cause the truck to think someone is trying to open the door from the inside and activate the alarm when parked and locked. Other than that, I can't seem to find a whole lot of information on the factory alarm.

EDIT: Also running through my mind since it seems to mostly occur in the middle of the night is perhaps a bad/failing battery. Could that cause the alarm to go off but cause no other issues?

Thoughts?
