Shifter **** "Sticky" / How to clean???

The console shifter **** is "sticky" to the touch. I assume it is due to the oil and dirt from the driver's hand.
I am not clear what material it is made of (faux leather, vinyl, ???).
What can I use to clean or minimize the sticky feeling?
