Won't start
2010 ram 1500 4.7.. Truck is definitly in park. Dash display shows its in reverse. First time it did this it cleared itself after sitting a few hours. This time I noticed when I put it in park, dash indicator jumped to reverse. Won't start also gear selector won't move. I already unplugged and re- seated any connectors under the dash. I could get to.also disconnected negative battery cable and let it sit for 10 minutes.any ideas?
Does the steering wheel unlock when the key or push button is turned to Run? If not, there might be an electronic steering lock that is keeping you from being able to adjust the gear selector or start the vehicle. I ran in to this on my 2008 Mercedes and these Rams still use a fair amount of technology they got from their Daimler-Chrysler days.
If the steering wheel unlocks, then check the ownerr's manual for a section on how to manually override the shift lock and see if you can get the selector to update after moving the selector a few times. Also make sure the brake lights work as expected since the brake pedal switch can prevent you from being able to shift out of park.

Thanks for the info. Rod, it worked. I guess what was throwing me was the truck showing it was in reverse when I knew it wasn't. Any idea as to what replacement part might be involved?? Again thanks
Unfortunately I don't have any service manual information for the 2010 model to get an idea what part might be bad. I'd suspect there's something like a transmission range sensor that may be the culprit, but that's only based on my experience with Ford products.

I took my truck to the dodge dealership. They diagnosed a bad shift cable, worn grommets. I was skeptical, but at the same time it made sense, especially with gear dash display showing reverse. But it does feel better now when i select a gear. There is also a recall on the brake shift interlock, just came out in February. Replacement part is not yet available. I had read where extreme interior temperatures may cause this type of problem, recently temperatures have not been as high as they were when this problem. Showed up. So we shall see.. Thanks again for your replies
