Default 2009 Ball Joint Replacement

Hey guys, new member, first post, guessing maybe you’ve all heard this one before....

I am in the process of replacing my lower ball joints on my 2009 SLT Crew, 4.7 RWD. I have the press and everything, was getting going and all was going well until I went to get the spindle off. I got the tie rod end off, undid the upper control arm, and am ‘stuck’ at getting the spindle/hub assembly off of the ball joint stud in order to press it out. I pretty much threw in the towel for the night, as whacking things with a 4lb hammer at 11pm is frowned upon in my neighborhood, especially by my wife and two little girls.

Any tips/tricks on dropping the assembly in order to get to the main goal here? I’ve hit it repeatedly and pretty damn hard. I sprayed some Aerokroil on it to sit over night. I’ll get back to beating on it in the morning, and possibly use some heat, unless someone here can tell me if I’m missing something or can give me a pointer or two. No axle/nut to contend with, just stuck here and pretty baffled.

Also, I’m a little suspicious as in all the homework I’ve done, there’s nothing out there on doing this job on a 2009, all seem to be for ‘02-‘08. Thanks in advance....

do you mean the steering knuckle? if its stuck on the lower bj stud...put the nut on a couple threads...spray some penetrating fluid and hammer the taper until its falls down.

fsm uses a ball joint removal tool #8677 to press it off....cause they don't want you hammering on a aluminum knuckle.

I have done that as well. I let it soak over night so I will try this morning here in a few minutes. I read on here in another post that they are suggesting you need to replace the whole arm, but I can’t believe that. Maybe they meant upper, which is more likely. Maybe I mean knuckle? Everything else is off/undone except right where the bj stud goes through.
