Default 2012 ST - EVIC Upgrade help!

So, like other posts on here, I have installed the EVIC cluster in my 2012 ST that came with the basic of basic clusters... I got a cluster from a 2012, and a steering wheel from a 2012 as well, and swapped them in, and the cluster works, the gauges work, except I cannot change the menus. My truck didn't originally come with any steering wheel controls, or even cruise control. When I swapped the wheel, my horn stopped working as well.

After doing more research, i found that I might need to do a wiring mod, by taking 2 wires from behind the cluster, and splicing them into the connector at the clock spring. I did that, and it killed my turn signals, and a few other things, so I undid the wires and all was "fine". I swapped the factory stock wheel back in, and I have my horn back!

I removed the steering wheel buttons from the "new" wheel, and got looking, and I haven't done it yet, but should I be able to splice the other 3 wires from teh connector into the harness for the steering wheel buttons, and then the 3 wires that I was supposd to splice in, just put them directly onto the 3 wires on the button harness? or should I be able to just add the 3 wires directly to that harness, and not worry about the other 3 wires... and then I can mount the buttons somewhere else (3D print a mount for the center console maybe?)

I haven't tried it yet, mostly because I forgot to check the pins through the clockspring, so that I know what wires are supposd to go where on the harness fort he buttons... the air bag is a pain in the *** to remove, so I just haven't done it yet. Maybe that is my next course of action, I don't know.

I was hoping that maybe someone here might have a better understanding of this, and how I should proceed, and hopefully get my EVIC cluster working... I know I have to replace the TPM in the kick panel to get all 4 individual tire pressures, but that's fine, I mostly want to have the fuel mileage display....

Thanks in advance!

So, turns out I am dumb.... I was talking with someone and the wiring mod I did MOSTLY correct, the part that I didn't do was CUT the 3 wires on the connector at the clockspring, dead end the ones that were going to it, and then the 3 wires I spliced (well, 2 and a ground) REPLACE those 3 wires at the clock spring. From the thread that I read, it was saying NOT to cut the wires, but what I didn't understand was that it was DO NOT CUT the wires at the cluster, splice those ones, and then REPLACE the ones at the clockspring with those. I mean, that makes total sense, and I did question that part of things when I was doing it... but I was like... it says DO NOT CUT... so, I didn't.

I am going to try again this evening, and see if everything works this time. It should... but who knows.
