Default Security Lockout

Hi all,

Someone broke into my truck recently, the immobilizer saved it from being stolen, but the coil was damaged. I started the truck and got shut off by the immobilizer a few times and now it doesn't start at all and seems to be in some sort of lockout mode. Key on turns on instrument panel with no code. Run position doesn't do anything. No crank no click. After this I had a electronic professional repair the immobilizer and it seems to be repaired (no red light blinking).

Battery is good, ground. Starter is good. Mechanic couldn't figure out why but saying PCM is not receiving or sending proper ground signal or something. Dealer didn't comment about theft mode and only said that it couldn't communicate with the WIN module and asked for 2k to replace lock cylinder, WIN and key, and see IF IT HELPS. My truck only worths 3k according to KBB, so I towed it back.

I heard that there is such a thing as the truck got put into anti-theft mode, but can't find solid information how to bring it out.

Thank you.

Are you symptoms just that the starter does not turn the engine over, or are you getting some indication that the anti-theft system is preventing the start? Or does the starter spin the engine over but it just never starts? There seem to be a lot of different definitions of "won't crank" throughout the forums so I'm looking to understand your definition.

When the key is in the on position i have radio, heat, gauges light up. But when I turn to the start position nothing. No starter noise no attempt to start. Bypassed the ignition and the starter cranks. Like I said the fob locks and unlocks the doors so it is communicating with the truck.

Keep in mind that the fob for door lock and unlock is not the same as the transponder key for the ignition security. Well, I need to caveat that I'm more familiar with the system Ford uses than Mopar, so I could be wrong on that. Is there any indication that the no start might be due to a security event, such as a flashing light on the instrument cluster when trying to start it? Have you checked the ASD relay to make sure that it's installed? This is another area I'm not real familiar with. The ASD relay might just disable the fuel pump and not prevent the starter from engaging.

I took a look at the wiring diagram for the starting system on the 2011 Ram 1500. My recommendation would be to pull the starter relay and check to confirm whether you have power to terminals 85 and 30 of the starter relay terminal when the key is in the Run position and Ground to terminal 86 when the key is in run. I'd recommend using a test light to load the circuit in case there's a corroded connection somewhere. Then depending on where you find power and ground, that will point you in a direction to dig deeper. If you have power to both terminals 85 and 30 and good ground to terminal 86, check for battery power on the Yellow/Gray wire to the starter motor assembly. If you don't have power to the Yellow/Gray wire (which you could check at fuse J17) check fuse J17 and if that is good but doesn't have power to and through it, then swap out the starter relay.
