Default Quick question about tranmission pans...

I need to change the fluid and filters on my mothers 2010 ram 1500 5.7 RWD transmission since it's coming up close to 200k miles. I tried looking it up but I keep finding conflicting information, I know for sure on the 3rd gens 2wd pans are shallow and 4wd pans are deep, but I heard that in 2009-2010 they decided to just use deep pans for all of the trucks because it was cheaper? So do I need a shallow or a deep pan filter? Thanks!

I have a 2010 1500 4wd 5.7. I'm not sure if it is deep or shallow, let me know how I'd be able to tell.

That said, in my maintenance logs I have the spin on filter (like the oil filter) as part number FK331. I couldn't get to the flat filter without disconnecting the exhaust, and I didn't want to do that. So I just did the spin on. I'm going to be doing both soon. My exhaust is rearranged to fit long tube headers, so the entire pan is now clear.

My transmission is the 545RFE. It should be the same in your vehicle. The 545RFE was used from '03 to '11 in the 1500 Rams. If that is the case, then you want this kit. That one includes the spin on and the second filter.

Thank you for the reply!

Yes, it is a 545RFE, same as in my old 2003 Ram. In my 2003 ram since it's a 2wd I had to get a shallow pan kit because I mistakenly bought the deep pan one and my pan wouldn't fit back on with the old filter. I know for absolutely certain that you have the deep pan being the 4wd. My mother's truck though is a 2wd, and I wanted to know for sure it would take a shallow kit since I heard that in 2010 they all used deep pans/filters in order to save money which makes sense. I might just end up buying both and returning the one I don't use to be honest. If I find out I'll post my result.
