Default 3.6 Oil Filter Housing

FYI I just replaced the oil filter housing on my 2017 3.6 Ram which had just turned 50,000 miles. There were no oil or coolant leaks that I could detect by looking in the area of the filter housing with a flashlight. I was preparing for a cross country trip and wanted to be sure things were ok with the filter housing, and so I ran a borescope down into the area of the housing. I saw that there was a slight seepage of coolant coming from the plastic plugs in the front of the housing...not enough to puddle up yet, but it was forming a crusty mess on front of the housing and on the engine block underneath. I have two friends with similar trucks who had filter housing leak oil around the 50,000 mile mark, so in advance of mine leaking I had already purchased the Doorman aluminum housing. I watched several youtubes on doing this repair, but the only one I fund for a Ram truck was made by a guy "Not a Mechanic"...there are several things that apply to the Ram that are not covered in other vehicle applications. Here are some of the repair procedures that made this job easier for me: first off, I did not drain the coolant (none of it)...this did not present any problems on the repair, and saved having to bleed the coolant system later...I laid a couple heavy moving blankets across the front of the engine bay, and laid across them far enough into the bay to access the motor, which everyone knows is stupidly located (by the engineers who never have to work on what they design) under the dashboard. I used 1/4 inch drive sockets for all nuts and bolts except for a swivel ratcheting box wrench for the four 10mm bracket bolts on the driver's side of the upper intake...a friend had his new install immediately leak oil upon completion of his repair, and had to take everything apart again (one of the o rings under the housing had slipped out of place)...to avoid this nightmare I did the following: after the filter housing was bolted into place, I removed the rags from the intake ports, and PUT THE CAP ONTO THE FILTER NECK...I removed the fuel pump fuse and then cranked the engine over for awhile to build up some oil pressure...great, no leaks...then I pressurized the cooling system to 15 lbs and let it sit for awhile...great. no coolant leaks...I then replaced the spark plugs while I was in there (the old ones looked brand new) and reassembled the various components, and reattached the 5 million electrical connectors and hoses. The truck started right up with no valve train noise, and ran great. Only 200 miles on it so far and things are good. I hope it stays good for my trip. Hope this might help out someone else.
