Hello-I bought a 2013 2500 crew cab long bed in February. The box had a rust spot under the rear, drivers-side fender, plus a few dings. I found a 2024 box on FB marketplace and got it on my truck. Then found out the connector to the tailgate doesn't match up. I also don't know if the taillights will match up because the tailgate only opens with the key fob. I checked a few other posts but couldn't quite figure out if what I was reading applied to my specific scenario.

You can swap tailgates from all pickup boxes 3rd gen to present production. You will probably not be able to use the tailgate pop feature unless you're 13 had it added aftermarket. You might have different issues of body lines matching up. I didn't think 5th gen beds matched the 4th gen ones as far as styling. But the tailgate should swap.

 

The box from the '24 actually matches '13 box. My old tailgate has the pop feature but I can use my key to unlock it as well. The '24 tailgate doesn't have the key open option. My problem is that my '13 frame wiring harness isn't matching the '24 box harness. Not sure if there is a conversion out there somewhere?

 

Tried some solutions this weekend with the help of my neighbor (he's a body man). He helped me get the tailgate open and we thought we could just swap out the "guts" from the old tailgate. That was a no go. Then, just to get a tailgate on until I could find a better solution, we tried to swap the tailgates. No go. The old tail gate has a female connectors on the both sides, the new on has one female and one male. Then I found the tail lights and the license plate lights do not match. So, just so I have brake lights, I switched over the tail lights from the old box...sigh...now I'm gonna see if a auto electronics shop can help me.
