2014 Ram 2500 power steering whine/humming/buzzing noise - PLEASE HELP!!!
Hi everyone, I have a humming/buzzing coming from my power steering system that I can't track down for the life of me. I have a 2014 Ram 2500 with the 6.4L engine and hydroboost brake system.
It started a few months ago when I noticed a constant humming/buzzing/whine noise that I could hear from inside my truck that changes tone with steering or when I step on the brakes. I assumed the power steering pump was going bad and replaced that with a cheap Cardone pump from Rock Auto. That did not fix the problem so I warrantied that, thinking I got a bad pump, but a second cardone pump did not help either. Not trusting cheap quality parts, I eventually shelled out the money for a new OEM pump from Mopar, but still the noise has not gone away, and at this point I think I can rule out the pump as the source of the noise.
I have found with the use of a stethoscope that the humming/buzzing is the loudest when I place it on the pressure hose from the pump to the hydroboost. You can also feel the vibration when you grab the hose with your hand. It feels like there is a lot of turbulance inside the hose. I know these have had issues in the past with the lining breaking or moving, so I replaced it. The OEM hose was backordered, so I had to use an edelmann hose from Rock Auto. The new hose buzzes just like the one I replaced.
I don't seem to have any performance issues. My steering feels fine and my brakes seem firm enough. I don't have any fluid leaks and the fluid in the reservoir does not show any signs of having air in it.
Does anyone have any ideas where to go from here? I have flushed the system multiple times with the recommended ATF+4 and bled it following the manual with the tires off the ground. I cant imagine there is any air trapped in the system.
Could it be a problem with the hydroboost causing turbulence issues even though it seems to be functioning correctly? Could it be something to do with the steering gearbox? Could there really be that big of a difference between OEM and edelmann pressure hoses that causes the noise?
Has anyone actually figured out how to fix this noise? I don't really want to just start throwing replacement parts at it. TIA.

Try pulling the pressure hose off at the hydro boost. 3rd gens had an issue with the plastic liner of the hose delaminating and trying to go through the system, usually its quickly diagnosed by pulling the pressure line off at the hydroboost and youll find the liner either sticking out of the hose or all mashed up in the fitting trying to enter the hydroboost
