I am tired of the flat audio sound of my 2016 RAM 1500 with the 5" Uconnect. It does not have premium sound (Alpine?)
Skar makes a quality 6x9 full range 120W speaker that fits in the door with minimal modifications. The result is beautiful and clear and full range sound. It's also quite a bit louder off the factory head unit which may be speaker efficiency or maybe it's just the dynamic range of the new speaker. Regardless, see the images if you are interested:
First I really didn't want to cut the truck's wiring so I noticed the connector on the speaker could be moved nicely and soldered to the Skar speaker. COOL!
I traced out the spacer onto 1/2" birch ply that I had a piece of. 1/2 seemed about right since the mounted depth of the Skar speaker was maybe 3/4" deeper than the OEM causing the magnet to hit the window travel frame.
I used a dremel with a sand drum to modify the plastic frame which eliminated the small bit of interference to the Skar magnet.
The OEM screws were too short with the spacer but I noticed 1-1/4" drywall screws were great and bit hard in the door panel. I've used these screws on sub boxes before, never had a problem.
