2013 5.7-water pump/thermostat change, now issues
Mechanic shop changed water pump and thermostat. 2013 Ram Sport 5.7. Now the heater isn't getting hot enough enough. The inside cabin at air vent is approximately 150 degrees after warm up and driving. The mechanic shop is closed for 2 weeks for the holidays so have to wait until they open back up to check it out.
After looking online I was thinking perhaps air in the system. I removed the water pump bleeder plug and nothing came out. The reservoir was full so not able to add coolant to flush out the air. I removed the radiator cap and coolant flowed out so I assume it flushed out the trapped air. Still the heater vent temp is ~ 150 degrees.
The dash gauges shows the engine temp to be around 195 degrees after warm up. The actuator doors seems to be working fine. Both heater hoses get hot, the heater core was actually changed about 2 years ago.
Stupid question but is it possibly an issue with the aftermarket thermostat that I'm sure the shop used. I've also seen that if the thermostat wasn't installed with the vent hole to the top the air would never get out. I've thought about removing the thermostat to see if it was installed in the correct position.

I guess I've never measured heater temp at a vent, everything you describe to me sounds like a perfectly functioning system. What is your comparison to prior repair? just feel? If your dash was gurgling, or you had inconsistent hot/cold temp without adjusting the setting would be signs of air. I'm not familiar with the newer hemi if it uses a coolant elbow that's serviced as a unit versus actually replacing the thermostat itself. These type cannot be screwed up at install as they're preassembled.
Hello:
Some year model Ram 1500 with 5.7L has a Ram 1500 3-Way Coolant Valve Some times they do not operate correctly.
Also the mechanic shop may not have put in a 210 degree thermostat.
Either way from what I am reading, seems all is working fine.
