Default Mounting depth of speakers.

Anyone have a list of the mounting depths of the stock speakers for the doors and dash?
Would like to know before I order better ones.

I would like to know the size for the front and the rears. Crutchfield says 6.5 for the fronts, and 6x9 for the rear. Onlinecarstereo says 6x9s for the front and 5.25 for the rear... I don't have the alpine system, what actually fits?

BTW according to onlinecarstereo the depth for front is 2.75" and rear is 2"

The actual cutouts are 6x9 in the front and rear doors and 3.5 in the dash. The problem in the front is there is only about 2" of mounting depth so 6.5 is the largest you can go unless you get the Kicker 6x9's from the Mopar catalog. The rear has enough space for a 6x9. From what I have found in my research the best way to go is with Infinity Kappa's. They are 2ohm, the 6.5" fit in the front doors (the amp crossover only sends mids to the front door speakers), Kappa 3.5" are available for in the dash.

Its not the cheapest setup but one of the easiest plug and play options aside from the Kicker setup. Some have said that getting the Kicker Amp upgrade helps with any aftermarket speaker upgrade and can be had for about $180. It changes the crossover points and adds the special surround mode.

Cant speak to the 3.5" in the dash as im not going to use them but ive been under the dash and seen and unplugged both of them and looks like there is plenty of depth. Detonatoryellow (check a few threads for his post) says he knows how to mount them easily (you will want this as they look like they would be a bitch to mount) As for the doors direwolf is right they are 6x9 cutouts on both front and rear doors. the front doors have a 3" top mount depth but if you use a spacer between the door and the speaker you can squeze out another 3/8 of an inch. The rear doors are 3.5" Top mount depth and again a spacer will yeild you another 3/8".

Default Here's what I foundduring my install.

Dash speakers are 3.5" and appear to be just a regular everday size and depth, I dropped seperate tweeters in this spot.

Front and rear doors are 6x9's where I mounted Diamond Audio D393i's. they have a cosmetic rubber boot around magnet structure that I had to modify slighty on fronts to achieve perfect fit. All speakers mounted nicely. I am sure you will be able to find several good quality solutions. Here's the specs on the Diamonds.. particularly 3.00 depth.

Power Handling NOM/MAX
75/150 Watts
Sensitivity (2.83V/1m)
91.5 dB SPL Frequency Response
47-20,000 Hz Mounting Depth
3 inches
Mounting Diameter
4.9 x 8.4 inches

REN- Headunit (Bought as a new pull)
Lockpick v2 (video out to two Sony 8" Dvd Monitors)
Video booster
Diamond Audio 75x4 to Diamond Audio 6x9's in doors (dynamat behind) and Diamond Audio tweeters in dash
Diamond Audio 400x1 to two Boston G210 subs in custom .5 cubic ft boxes
Audiocontrol 3xs Crossover
2.0 farad Capacitor
PAC CHR-3 plug in line out adapter (no splicing)
1/0 power cable from Battery to distribution block
Wired with Monster Cable 400mkII interconnects and speaker wire.

Do you have a photo of the OEM speakers for comparison to your new gear ?? (I recall you said they were paper cones, but it'd be great to see a visual comparison.)

Well yea everything fits great now, but i custom cut wood spacers, dremeled the inside of the door panels to allow mounting of crossover,
drilled holes in the door panel for mounting of the tweeters, etc. If you take your time you can make aftermarket speakers fit and finish better than factory. If your looking for plug and play then i would not order component speakers as the crossover and the tweeters add alot of work to the install.
Hope this helps

Default Sorry no pics.

My apologies I didn't find this forum until after I installed my system. When I get back from a conference I am leaving for I'll take some photos of the finished product. No photos to compare original speakers to new ones and yes the factory ones are cheap dual cones. To answer the other question ...yes everthing fits snuggly, no rattles and sounds amazing.

Eclipse 6x9 3 ways fit up front without any interference, The Polk 6x9 3 ways first hit on the magnet, then with spacers to clear the back the door panel would hit on the mid and tweet. The Polks mounted fine in the back doors.

Check Crutchfield for dimensions
