Default 1500 Towing

Who's towing what with their 1500? Specifically, I'm wondering how well my 2019 Limited with air suspension will do with a trailer I'm renting. The trailer is a 30' camping travel trailer and weighs 5460 empty. Is anti-sway needed? Is an equalizer hitch needed? It's been years since I pulled a travel trailer (2009) and that was with my 2005 RAM 1500 so this truck is a new game for sure. I pull my 1973 Duster on my car trailer with no issues but the whole thing including the trailer is only 4600 pounds. And I hauled a load of tile for my son that was about 6500 gross but that was only 10 miles. I don't think there will be any issues with pulling the travel trailer but I'm am more curious about the hitching system.

you need a wd hitch for a trailer that heavy and long. the towing limits are listed in the owner manual. The air system is a benefit as is the factory brake controller that incorporates sway control using the abs system.

With air suspension, I learned the hard way you need an equalizer hitch. Sway control is always a good idea. They aren't cheap. My equalizer hitch cost me $300 back in the early 90's. However, it's adjustable and those cost more. in the last 25+ years, I've just never adjusted it. How are you fixed for brakes? Trailer have surge or electric? Do you have a brake controller?

The trailer has electric brakes and I have the tow package. I'll invest in a weight dist. hitch now. Thanks

Make sure the trailer tongue A frame has room for the equalizer brackets and you'll be good to go.
