Exclamation 2025 Ram 1500 Laramie - battery dead

Bought a used (23K) 2025 Ram 1500 Laramie 4x4 in October. Has been a great truck since I bought it, until yesterday.

Problem is the battery was dead. Had been hearing a "grich/grich" about every 20-30 seconds after it was shut down. Sound is similar to sound when you open the door when doors were locked. It's not the door lock, it's something that is trying to prepare the truck to start.
I've searched the internet, all kinds of things from "hard reset of battery" to "front axle lock-up actuator bad" or "key fob too close to vehicle". Nobody really knows.

I have the batteries disconnected & charging the 12 volt battery overnight. Going to the dealer tomorrow to have them do a deep scan on the electronics. With this year truck, all the wiring/computer/sensors are new. Completely different from previous years. So something is not working or is not going to sleep as it should.

If you have had a similar issue, post it up. If not, I'll post what I find out at the dealership & keep monitoring.

I do hear a lot of clicking after I shut the truck off, but it all stops after about 45 seconds. I do hear a click when I get near the truck, but low battery has not been an issue. I have had the truck turn the radio off after the truck is shut off for about 2 minutes saying it's saving the battery.

Ok, back from dealership. Here is what we found out:
  • Auxiliary battery (12 volt) was dead, but charged fine & load tested fine;
  • Main battery fully charged, load tested fine;
  • Draw test (takes 90 minutes to complete) showed a 0.08 volt draw. Searched around & the mechanic found my music mini usb drive plugged into the usb port. Unplugged it & voltage draw dropped to 0.01 volts. Also unplugged the usb phone charging cable which had no effect on the voltage draw.
  • Mechanic explained anything plugged into the usb or 12 volt outlet will not let the computers go to sleep. The "grich/grich" sound I was hearing was the throttle body getting ready to start the engine. Since having it home with the usb ports open (nothing plugged into them), I don't hear the "grich/grich" with the engine shut off.
Moral of story, unplug all your accessories when you shut down. I found out the USB ports are not switched, they are constantly powered.

Hope this helps someone else experiencing this problem. This is a new problem for the 2025 model year, as engineer's had to justify their existence by reworking all the sensors, wiring, computers & constant power -vs- switched power outlets. GRRRR I thing engineers need to learn & practice being a mechanic before ever putting pencil to paper designing anything.

Great info. I always keep my MP3 player plugged in. Maybe I will start unplugging it to see if all that clicking stops when I shut off the truck. Thanks Again!
