Not sure if this is the correct place to post this blog but if it is not, I’m sure and I hope the Mod’s will move it to it’s correct location.

Here goes. I am a current member of Corvette Forum, I own and have owned Corvettes for many years. However, at this juncture in my life I would like to purchase the predecessor of all Muscle Cars; a Classic Mopar. I am from the North and up here Classic Muscle is hard to come by and if you do find something, it’s a rust bucket.

Here is my dilemma and reason for posting here. I have found a ’69 Dodge Charger RT 440. It is totally disassembled and in mid rotisserie restoration. It has all new sheet metal where needed and new carpet, upholstery, a new Dana rear end, doors hood and ect. The owner states that he has all parts necessary to put the car back together plus extras.

The owner wants $10,000 for the whole kit and caboodle. My problem is this. I don’t know if this is a good deal because I have never dabbled in Mopar’s nor have I ever had someone do a restoration on one. What I’m getting from my peers is don’t do it; get a complete car.

What are your views on this matter and why.

Good luck on the car! Would be awesome if you could get it restored and welcome to the forum from North Carolina.

If you have the garage and the know how to work on cars, I would buy it in a heart beat. Assuming that the car wouldn't be to hard to get back to your location.

Now if you are going to have a shop finish the rebuild, then you might want to look elseware. Reason is most shop will charge $75/hour to work. If the car is torn down as much as you make it sound, you could be dropping another $15-$20k to finish the rebuild. Maybe more depending on your area. This still sounds like a good deal this way as most people selling the complete car in running condition will be asking near $50k.

The only thing you have to look at too is when do you want to be behind the wheel? You buy a car that needs complete rebuild, even if you have the parts, you could be with out the car for 6-10 months with a good shop. You could probably find a complete car for a decent price in that time frame and don't have to worry about any of the parts that may be bad.

ORRRRRR, buy the torn down car, ship it to Chip FOOSE and drop a couple hundred thousand and have the car back in a week..... Sorry, had to joke a little.
