Default 98 quad cab ram speaker ?

I purchased a 98 ram quad cab last year. The head unit has been replaced with a pioneer cd player. The driver side door speaker is dead,I pulled the door panel off to replace the speaker. When I got the speaker out it has something mounted to it with about 6 wires going to it and two coming off it to the speaker. What is this and do I have to run newspeakerwires to replace the speakers?

Found part of the answer in another post. They are amps on the front speakers.
How do I bypass them or do I need to run new speaker wire to the fronts?

i think i would just run new speaker wire. 9 years is old enough to think about replacing.

I have a 99 Ram Sport Quad with the same speakers. I'm going to replace the radio unit with an after market mp3 cd player. So,should Iassume fromall this informationthat I should ditch those speakers with those amps attached to them (I wondered whatthose thingswere too)and install new aftermarket speakers?
