Default pioneer avh-p5700 with the avg vdp1

i have everything hooked up and trying to calibrate my rpms they wont properly calibrate. it says hook the pink wire up to a vehicle speed signal, i drive a dodge srt-4. i looked on alldatadiy.com and showed me the orange white orange wire is the speed signal wire. i quick sliced the pink wire into that wire going into the pcm. calibration in the directions say to hold rpms at 2 or 4,000 and hold for a few seconds then push the button your holding at on the avh-p5700. well i tried both settings and none worked. i cant get this to properly calibrate when i follow instructions and everything is wired correctly. any help?

Yeah the white/orange wire at the PCMis the speed sense wire, but that would have nothing to do with your RPM. The vehicle dynamics processor picks up RPM through the (+) power wire. It works kinda like when you get alternator whine, the unit can detect that change in pitchin the voltage frequency. Many newer vehicles, especially ones with coil packs instead of a coil and a distributor, don't work well with the system. They really should have a tach wire on the unit instead.

so should i put the wire onto a different wire to pick up that voltage frequency?

maybe tap the wire into the tach wire?

No no no. You have it hooked to he correct wire. It does not use that wire what so ever to detect RPM. That is only for speed. It's only use is to make the speedometer on the unit more accurate, and also when you go into a tunnel and the GPS can't map your speed, that wire keeps the speed acurate. Hooking that wire to a tach source would do absolutely nothing except possibly damaging the unit. There is nothing you can do about it. The tach (RPM)function of the Vehicle Dynamics will simply not work very well with your vehicle. We run into it all the time. The DEH-P7800 and 9800 have the same feature built into them and they just don't work well on some newer vehicles.

It's most likely because of the RPM readings being off. I'll do you a favor and call Pioneer tech. The real dealertech, not the crap you get from the 1-800 number. I'll see if there is any way of getting a better RPM reading with the coil packs.
