this has nothing to do with Dodges but i installed my old Pioneer DEH15 in my friends 1988 Buick Century. the CD player works fine and everything BUT now her interior lights dont work. they took it to the shop and its because the radio circuits go through the lighting circuit as well. there was a brown wire (according to a diagram i got its the dimmer wire) and i cant remember what i did with this wire but i think i just wrapped it up to keep it from touching the other wires. now i know this is the wire that is causing the lights not to work so what should i connect it to?

 

Sure its not a blown fuse?

 

it was a fuse....so we replaced the fuse and everything worked fine...till we put a CD in. and it seems like when you put a CD in it the radio is asking for more power and the power its asking for is too high for the light fuse.

 

Doesn't sound right at all. What size fuse is it that you're replacing?

 

10amp. the light fuse was a 10amp. the radio fuse is a 10amp and the fuse on the radio itself is a 10amp.

 

Then something is grounding out somewhere. It shouldn't even draw 10A, at most 8A or so. if it drew 10+Ait would blow it's own fuse. So if it's blowing a 10A fuse down the line, there's something else going on between there and the radio. Not sure what, but it's not the radio asking for more power.

 

Pull the HU and disconnect the Dimmer and/or Illumination wires if you have them connected. Tape them up each indepentendly to make sure that they don't short.

If this doesn't fix your problem then there is something else going on, possibly the factory wiring or a switch shorting.

Hey Guys, sorry to resurect a long dead thread, but I'm having the same problem... Would a shorted headlight switch possibly be the cause of this problem? I've found that if I mess around with the headlight switch, I can get the dash and interior lights to work in a very specific position, but my stereo still gets no power. This is with the Orange and Black/yellow wires taped off and isolated.&nbsp\\;
