Default '06 ram factory stereo fit '99 dakota???

I just had my stereo replaced and have a question. I have a '06 megacab, stereo was base cd player. My brother has a '99 dakota with a tape deck. My deck looks a little bigger which is not the issue. I know that there may be some cutting that may need to be done to fix, but I was wondering if the factory wiring harness' will match or if the '06 stereo can get a wire harness that will allow it to work. The reason that my brother is trying to do this is because his wife won't let him drop a dime into the truck. Long story and I am not going to get into it. Any help would be appreciated.. Thanks ahead of time.

No, even if you got it to fit. The 06's radio is turned on via Can-Bus. The 99 is not. There would be no way to turn the radio on.

Pardon me for my ignorance, but what is Can-Bus?

It's a system newer vehicles use. It's basically a computer system that communicates using 1 wire in the vehicles and sends data signals via that wire to control different things, monitor systems, and diagnostics.. The radio in your 06 doesnt have a regular accessory wire to turn it on like most radios, the computer sends it a data signal on the Can-Bus wire and "tells" it to turn on. There is no other way to turn the radio on. The 99 doesn't have that system, so the radio would never turn on in that truck.
