Default crossover/equalizer Q's

It would be cheaper to put in-line crossovers in my setup,
but i was wondering if I would need them if I used an equalizer?

I like the idea of precise control over my sound.

Can someone give me a rundown of the Pros/cons of each?
I've looked but only end up with more questions.

P.S. I'm gonna be running two 12" subs and four 6.75 (3way) speaks. powered by 2 amps
