Default wiring lights to one switch (on, off, on)

went to radioshack and got a rocker switch with on, off, on positions. the guy at the store said the center prong was to the lights and the other two prongs were for each power source. i'm trying to run one power from a speaker wire that way when the bass hits the lights flash but for some reason when i flip the switch the amp cuts out. what could be wrong?

You don't have the power wire from the amp hooked to the switch do you?

You have the power run to the switch from the amp, so when you turn your switch off it will turn your amp off. Your amp needs to run to your starter, that way when you turn your car or truck on and off your amp will work with it.
