Alpine IVA-D106 or Pioneer AVH-P5900DVD?

Alpine IVA-D106 or Pioneer AVH-P5900DVD?
I'm going to begin bringing my Durango into this century with a new head. I've got kids on long trips so the DVD is important.
I’m on the fence between these two head units:

Anyone have good/bad experience with either Alpine or Pioneer? Is there a different brand I should consider?
I looked at Kenwood, but 2 thinks turned me off:
1. No volume ****, I just really like a ****, was never fond of pushing up and down buttons for volume.
2. I didn’t like the way the Kenwood screen slid, it does this crazy back-flip, but it does sit further away from the air vents.
