Talking New build

I started building my box for my Trans Am...I know, not a dodge. I already have the components in the doors and a crappy pioneer radio for now. I have the box all sanded and ready to be painted. I will hopefully be done in a few days will pics of everything.

Installing

Radio- not sure
Speakers- Kicker SS components
Amp- DLS A5
Sub- Image Dynamics 10" IDQ sealed around 1cf.
Kicker 1/0awg wiring to Kicker D/B blocks and then Kicker 4 awg to the amp
No electrical upgrades yet.

tell us what you think of the SS components. considering them because kicker sells them to us for 210 bux a pair so i'm thinking they may be worth that. thinking that or jl zr's but those i don't get discounts on sooo that means 850 a pair which sux.

CC? I have them running off an old pioneer H/U rite now......obviously I cant judge how good they will sound with the amp, but they sound pretty good now..they jst dont get very loud. The build quality is great and the crossover are well layed out. There are some focal and diamond comps around the same price, but I cant imagine any speaker for 200 bux will sound like these. I was lookin at the polk SR speakers.... but I was worried the tweeter would get smashed by some idiot in my car. I am supposed to get my partsexpress order today and I am going to have to call Kicker, because I faxed the order last monday and I ordered my parts express stuff friday and I dont have the kicker yet.

yea, ya know i'm considering Sr's too and i thought the exact same thing about that tweet. looks way to delicate. no one around my area carries them so i can't see them in person other than pics but i definately agree with that.

we carry ks series and they are real nice and a guy i work with is running rs. the amp will make a huge difference tho. i'm waiting to see how his rs sounds when he gets a bigger amp. right now he has the kicker 350.4 which is only 45 watts rms at 4 ohms. he's ordering a 650.4 which is like 90ish which is closer to running the rs at what they can so we shall see.

i'm fairly impressed with KS and RS so SS must be good.

Well.......a month later I will update this....actually the car is up for the winter now lol. I will get some pics of the components up front, but they are jst mounted in the factory locationm so there isnt anything super special about them....and the radio isnt the one im going to keep in it. Overall im pretty happy with how it came out for my first big fiberglass install. The subs sounds pretty good and has great output for a single sealed 10". I could stand the speakers to have a bit more volume, but they sound pretty good. With some deadening in the door and a new head unit that would give me a bit more eq I think I could make them sound a bit better. Onto the pics....

Nice build! I love seeing the amps and the wires all tucked in. Some people hide the amps undeneath plexi and I just think that's the worst thing for them unless your getting fresh air to them. The'll heat up like crazy. What did you spray the top coat with? It's almost like a speckled undercoating? Ofcourse the kind that would harden and not remain pliable...lol
Just one little picky thing.......does it bother the crap outta you that the amp doesn't sit flush on all 4 corners like you had hoped? I know it would bother me if I had spent that much effort on it trying to make it look perfect! Ofcourse things cannot always go perfect, but I was just curious???? It looks beautiful though. I did a similar set-up in my SS but the amp sat up top and got too hot from the sun(ended up tiniting the rear window after it was fixed) It was a PIA to keep the T-tops in the car with all that stuff. I ended up making brackets that went over the amp deck to hold them. I know I have a pic somehwhere, but that was 10yrs ago.

Wait, hold up... That's your first build? pffft forget about the amp not laying flat, that is awesome bro! That's better than most pro jobs. I thought you were an avid fiberglass box builder!

I have played with fiberglass some...dash peice...kick panels....but nothing this big. And ya the amp not being flush does kinda bother me...but I dont really care.....What happened was I got the dimensions off of sonic elecronix website....or dls's website I cant remember what one...but they were wrong and it ended up being a tad bit longer than I made the amp template for and I already had the fleece glassed on the mold so I left it. The paint is a stone texture paint I got at home depot, but other places have it. I messed up after sanding the **** out of the box...... I didnt paint the body filler black......the body filler was yellow, so I had to use alot of the paint. And since I put so many layer on it its kinda fragile. I put like 4 coats of clear on it, but I chipped some of the paint off the side of the box where u cant see it putting it in. If I do it again I would probably have someone spray the box instead of using this paint again. I made a box for my friend in his ranger and it did the same thing..box chips kinda easy. I think in certain apps and with not many layer this paint is fine, but not built up alot like I have been using it. Thanx for all the kind words guys!!!
