adding powered sub (infinity basslink) to '05 durango infinity system
I was wondering if I would run into problems trying to hook up a powered subwoofer, in this case an Infinity Basslink, to the already amplified infinity sound system in my '05 durango.
I don't want to replace the deck because i want to keep the factory look for now, but i took basslink out of my trade-in when i got the durango and it's just collecting dust right now... we all know thats the last thing a subwoofer should be doing
, so I would love to be able to put it to use.
obviously since i'm not replacing the deck, i won't be able to use RCA inputs, but the basslink works with speaker-level input wiring. my question is (besides how to hook up speaker-level wire, because i've never spliced into speaker wire before) is whether or not there would be a conflict with the built in amp on the basslink and the infinity amp in the D.
also, if splicing into speaker wire works, would it just work alongside the factory infinity sub?
Thanks for any input!

I would recomend picking up a Line-Output Converter. This will take your audio signal from your speakers and convert it to RCA signal wires. This will get you a cleaner audio signal, and is pretty easy to do. It's a pretty straight forward install, but if you've got a factory sub, I would recomend disconnecting it. You can run into distortion and cancelation issues if you have a factory sub and an aftermarket running at the same time. I would unplug the factory sub and use the wires running into the sub for your audio source. Be sure that you've got the polarity right.

as far as the amplifier goes, would the infinity amp + basslink amp have problems, or will they just sort of work together (infinity tells basslink when to turn on/off, etc)?
and just to clarify, you're saying that I can use the existing wires for the factory sub to splice into with the Line-Output Converter i would purchase [like this?] to use with the basslink? So i don't need to splice into, say, the speaker wires in the doors, just the factory sub wires?
sorry for all the questions, i'm rather new to car audio
Not quite. The Infinities won't necessarily work together all on their own. Here's all the parts you'll need.
-Infinity Basslink
-Adjustable Line Output Converter
-Amplifier Kit (8awg power & ground wires, RCA signal cables, 16-18awg amplifier turn on wire, fuse link, connecters, etc)
You'll need to run the new 12v power wire to the battery, and tie the blue amp turn on wire into a switched accessory circuit. You can either go behind the radio or to the ignition harness, both are easily accessable and good sources for your switched power. Find a flat space of sheetmetal that is out of the way for your ground. Take some sand paper or a cleaning wheel and scrape away the paint so that you see bare metal. Take a self taping screw and a star washer, and secure the ground to the sheet metal. Be sure that you don't accidentally hit any fuel lines or the fuel tank by using too long a screw. Catch your audio signal behind the radio, plug your rca's into the converter, and run them all to your basslink.
