Question How would you hardwire in a TomTom GPS?

Okay, so I have a 2005 SLT and I'm trying to figure out how in the world I'm going to mount and wire my GPS into my truck...

My first idea is this.... I can use my vent mount and attach the GPS to the center air vent and use it just like that.. It would be easy. I have ONE small problem with it though. The power cord... I know you can recharge TomToms, but I very much so do not want to do that in this vehicle.

I don't have a problem with wiring, except I don't want a wire hanging down in front of my climate controls.

My goal is to have as little wires visible in the truck. I want everything clean.

What do you guys think? Maybe there's alternative I'm not thinking of?

Is it possible to tuck/squish the wire into this spot?

Are you looking for a permanent install?

If so, you could pull the front cover plate off the controls, drill a hole to run the wire through to keep it hidden. Run the wire to any power source. Cut, strip and splice into the power strip. I use what ever recommended fuse is in the power adapter too. You can buy the inline fuse holders at Radio Shack for a couple bucks.

That is what I did with a LCD monitor for a wireless back up camera that I had on my '06 Megacab. I had the monitor, near the lower part of the controls though.

I found out how to remove the front covers, drilled a small hole and wired everything in. Looked real clean too.

Good luck on your venture. Take some pics once it is done.

Do I have to drill a hole? I was hoping I could tuck the wire in between the crease and then just plug it into the cig lighter.

Where is a power wire located or fusebox I can tap into?

Yes, I was looking to make it permanent.
