Default Adding bass to 99 Ram Quad Cab.

Late last year I added an amp and 6 speakers to my Ram (already had an alpine h/u). I am just now thinging of how to get some decent bass in the truck. It's an older truck and I don't really see alot of options. I keep hearing of probox and rock box or other similar names but it doesn't appear they make things for 99 models.

I know JL makes a stealthbox that goes under the reat seat. I think it's 7 o 8 hundred. To much for my taste. I also think I saw one that replaces the center console. I don't want that type option.

I ran across Thunderform and Bass Slammers (I think ??) which look to be the same. IIRC they were ~350 but I can't remember if that came with subs.

I seem to remember a thread a while back where some owners raised their rear seats to allow a little more room under the seat. I'm not a big "do-it-yourself" guy so not sure I could manage that.

So, for all the 99 (or 98 - 2001 because I think they may be the same) owners, what have you done?

They make shallow mount subs, jl makes one, kenwood makes a good bang for your buck sub, 10" and 12". You can find boxes for them that will fit right under your seats.

I knew JL sells a shallow but I think it's13.5" and ~$400 - 500. Didn't know Kenwood sells them too but I also didn't think Kenwood is one of the top manufacturers anymore????

I know RF does too but I heard they weren't that great.

I think I am just out of luck.

Kenwood Execelon is pretty good, i have two in my dakota with a 1000watt amp and if you wire it right and in a ported box they sound good, i am telling you, 125 a piece and they preform. up to you. Just giving you some ideas.

the Fosgate P3S's are frikin badd-A dude! I installed 2 of them into an 02 King Cab F250 and it sounded great. Nice and smooth sound, not real harsh at high volumes or sloppy at the lower frequencies. Anyway, Kenwood isn't bad, if you do go kenwood, go with the higher end models. Just do some looking around though, there's plenty of options out there. If you're looking for something to just drop right in, then the MTX thunderforms are a good option. Not super powerful, but the enclosures are well constructed and will provide enough bottom end if you're looking to just round out your sound.

Understood, I was advising to steer clear of the lower end equipment because the Excelon is the only shallow mount sub (in my opinion) that Kenwood makes worth purchasing.

Yeah they are, I was just trying to point him towards a good sub that is relatively cheap.

If you look on ebay you can find a lot of downfire under the rear seat boxes, if you want to go with 10's, the 12 box that goes under the rear seat is for one only. There is also forward firing for the 10's, but IMO the downfire will sound better and hit harder because you are useing the carpet and padding as a form of dynomatting. I went with Boston's in my truck and love them. I had the actual shallow mount subs and took them out and replaced them because The response was not as fast and the hit was not as hard as the ones I have now.
