Default adding Navigation

If i add the OEM navigation unit, will i have to have the dealership do some kind of "flash" so my truck reads it as a navigation unit..or will the truck do all that by itself?

Just the unit itself will work it. I would HIGHLY recommend and aftermarket unit. Eclipse, Alpine, or Kenwood. 3 of the top headunit manufacturers with litle to no issues

Any other time i would most definitely go the after market route...i had a nice kenwood set up, but i have the alpine upgrade and i dont want to deal with losing the steering wheel controls and the back up camera function...

If you find out let me know I also Have a 08 ram witht he basic cdplayer and want the stoc nav. my email is brradlangan@yahoo.com if you find out- if you put any aftermarket radio in your truck and ever have to take your truck in for service they will always blame your aftermarket radio on the problem and if they do that there is not much you can do your screwed-on this truck its a good idea to do stock- i have had so many problems with my 08 dodge ram and every time i took it in the mechanics said its your radio take it out!

Trying to upgrade to a factory navigation unit has a few problems
The nav head unit only works with the factory premium audio system (matching factory amplifier)
The wiring harness is a little different
The nav unit also requires a gps antenna

The blue tooth unit also requires a microphone input

That sucks. I had a free Nav coming but I don't have premium sound so I canceled that. If a buy a pioneer double din nav radio, which bezel will I need because the factory nav bezel is way bigger than the pioneer nav radio. Will the installation kit for the pioneer fill up the rest of that hole in the factory nav bezel?
